The story begins with Superman returning to the Fortress of Solitude after a long absence. He is surprised to find that the Fortress has been invaded by a group of aliens called the Synnarites. The Synnarites are a race of technologically advanced beings who are looking for a new home. Superman agrees to help the Synnarites find a new home, but only if they promise to leave Earth alone.

Superman and the Synnarites set out on a journey to find a new home for the aliens. Along the way, they are attacked by a group of space pirates. Superman and the Synnarites are able to defeat the space pirates, but not before the Synnarites' ship is damaged. The Synnarites are forced to crash-land on a nearby planet.

While the Synnarites are repairing their ship, Superman explores the planet. He is surprised to find that the planet is inhabited by a race of sentient plants. The plants are peaceful and friendly, and they welcome Superman and the Synnarites to their planet.
