Military Career

Henry V began his military career at the age of 16 when he joined his father's army in Wales. He quickly proved himself to be a skilled and courageous warrior. In 1403, Henry led an English army to victory over the Welsh rebel leader Owain Glyndŵr.

In 1415, Henry V launched an invasion of France. He landed at Harfleur and besieged the town for several months. After capturing Harfleur, Henry led his army northward towards Calais. On October 25, 1415, Henry's army met the French army at Agincourt. The English army was outnumbered by the French, but Henry's superior tactics and leadership led to a decisive English victory.

The Battle of Agincourt was a turning point in the Hundred Years' War. The English victory boosted English morale and gave Henry V a strong bargaining position in negotiations with the French. In 1420, Henry V signed the Treaty of Troyes with the French king, Charles VI. The treaty recognized Henry as the heir to the French throne and gave him control of Normandy and other French territories.

Religious Life

Henry V was a devout Christian. He founded several monasteries and churches, including the Carthusian monastery of Sheen Priory. Henry also supported the University of Oxford and founded the King's College chapel.

Death and Legacy

Henry V died on August 31, 1422, at Vincennes Castle in France. He was 35 years old. Henry's death was a blow to England and to the English cause in the Hundred Years' War. He was succeeded by his infant son, Henry VI.

Henry V is remembered as one of England's greatest kings. He was a skilled military leader who led England to victory in the Hundred Years' War. He was also a devout Christian who founded several monasteries and churches. Henry V's legacy continues to inspire Englishmen today.

King Henry the Fifth was a complex and fascinating figure. He was a skilled military leader, a devout Christian, and a generous patron of the arts. Henry's legacy continues to inspire Englishmen today.
