After a brief hiatus, the Expanse series is back with a vengeance in Persepolis Rising, the sixth book in the acclaimed science fiction saga by James S.A. Corey. Picking up where the previous book, Babylon's Ashes, left off, Persepolis Rising finds the crew of the Rocinante in a new and dangerous era.
The solar system is on the brink of war. The Ring Gates, ancient alien artifacts that allow for instantaneous travel between star systems, have been opened, and humanity is now faced with a vast and unexplored frontier. But with the Ring Gates also comes danger. A new alien race, the Goths, is on the rise, and they are determined to conquer the galaxy.
The crew of the Rocinante finds themselves caught in the middle of this conflict. They are hired by a mysterious benefactor to investigate a group of refugees who claim to have knowledge of the Goths' plans. As the crew investigates, they uncover a deadly conspiracy that could have devastating consequences for the solar system.
Persepolis Rising is a thrilling and immersive return to the beloved universe created by James S.A. Corey. With its intricate world-building, pulse-pounding action, and unforgettable characters, Persepolis Rising is a must-read for fans of science fiction.
The Characters
The crew of the Rocinante is back in full force in Persepolis Rising. James Holden, Naomi Nagata, Amos Burton, and Alex Kamal are all present and accounted for, and they are joined by a new crew member, Bobbie Draper, a former Martian marine who is now a member of the OPA.
The crew is as close as ever, but they are also facing some new challenges. Holden is still struggling with the guilt over his role in the events of Babylon's Ashes, and Naomi is dealing with the loss of her husband. Amos is still his usual stoic self, but he is starting to open up more to his crewmates. Alex is still the pilot, but he is also starting to take on a more leadership role.
Bobbie Draper is a welcome addition to the crew. She is a strong and capable woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. She is also a skilled fighter, and she quickly proves herself to be a valuable asset to the crew.
The World
The world of the Expanse has changed dramatically since the events of Babylon's Ashes. The Ring Gates have opened up the solar system to new frontiers, but they have also brought new dangers. The Goths are a powerful and ruthless enemy, and they are determined to conquer the galaxy.
The solar system is on the brink of war. The UN and the Mars Congressional Republic are both vying for control of the Ring Gates, and the OPA is caught in the middle. The crew of the Rocinante finds themselves in a dangerous position, and they must choose sides carefully.
