Mabel Katz is a beacon of hope in the fight against sexploitation and human trafficking. As a survivor of sexual abuse and exploitation herself, Mabel has dedicated her life to empowering other survivors and advocating for systemic change.
Mabel's journey began in the 1970s when she was lured into prostitution as a teenager. She endured years of abuse and exploitation, but eventually managed to escape with the help of a social worker. Determined to break the cycle of violence, Mabel became an advocate for other survivors.
In 1988, Mabel co-founded the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST),one of the leading anti-trafficking organizations in the United States. CAST provides direct services to survivors, including shelter, counseling, job training, and legal assistance. The organization also advocates for policy changes to combat trafficking and protect survivors.
Mabel's work with CAST has had a profound impact on the lives of countless survivors. She has helped to create a safe space where they can heal, rebuild their lives, and find their voices. Mabel is also a tireless advocate for survivors' rights. She has testified before Congress, spoken at international conferences, and lobbied for legislation to strengthen protections for victims of trafficking.
In addition to her work with CAST, Mabel is also a founding member of the National Human Trafficking Hotline and the Polaris Project, two organizations that provide critical support to survivors and law enforcement.
Mabel's unwavering commitment to fighting sexploitation and human trafficking has earned her international recognition. In 2016, she was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor.
Mabel Katz is a true hero in the anti-trafficking movement. Her unwavering dedication to survivors and her relentless advocacy for systemic change have made a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals. Her story is an inspiration to us all, and her work serves as a reminder that we must never give up the fight to end sexploitation and human trafficking.
